Surface/Memory

 

The 2013 series Surface/Memory was produced during a study exchange in Plymouth, Devon, England. It features explorations of the use of porcelain in jewellery.

 

There is perhaps nothing more imperative when beginning a work of art than considering the surface upon – or substance out of which – it will be created. The use of unique or unexpected surfaces often allows for new or altered interpretations of traditional themes. ‘Surface’ may be defined several ways; it is the materiality of an artwork, the unexamined crevices within the world around us and the unearthing of undiscovered aspects within oneself that forms the basis of this series.
