Anamnesis

The tragedy of memory is loss. It is intangible and therefore destined to be forgotten or erased. We attempt to avoid this loss through embedding objects with memories. In their new vessel, memories may be worn, viewed, or touched. Once palpable, they are more easily grasped as they inevitably begin to fade.

The series Anamnesis, produced after my 2013 study exchange and travels through Europe, examines the impact of my experiences during that time upon my life after my return to Australia. The objects act as portals to the past, or triggers for remembrance. Wearable and portable, the rings may be carried always, present for reminiscence whenever needed. In years to come, when my memories will have faded even further than they have now, I may examine my rings and recall that which must not be forgotten.
